Shake the bottle. Every single time.

Moodtanicals Shaking The Bottle

There is a right way and a wrong way to use a terpene spray. The difference between them comes down to one step most people skip. You open the bottle. You spritz. You go about your day. Simple enough. Except, did you shake it first? Because if you did not, you may not have gotten what you paid for.

This is not a minor detail. It is the most important thing to know about using any Moodtanicals spray, and honestly any essential oil spray at all. Here is why.

What is actually in the bottle

Every Moodtanicals spray is made with three things: distilled water, perfumers alcohol, and a blend of GC/MS-verified essential oils and terpene isolates. Each formula is built to hit a specific terpene profile, a precise ratio of compounds like myrcene, limonene, b-caryophyllene, and linalool that drive the mood effect you are after.

That terpene profile is the whole point. It is what makes a sleep spray different from an energy spray. It is what took two years and a custom algorithm to get right. And it is concentrated in the essential oil portion of the formula.

Here is the chemistry problem: essential oils do not mix with water. They are hydrophobic. Left alone, they will always separate, rising to the top or sinking to the bottom depending on their density, gradually pooling away from the water base. Even in a well-made spray, separation happens. Every time. It is not a sign of a bad product. It is just chemistry doing what chemistry does.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOUR SPRAY
If you pick up a bottle that has been sitting for a few hours and spray it without shaking, the first few spritzes may be pulling mostly from the water layer, light on terpenes, light on effect. The aromatic compounds you actually want are unevenly distributed until you shake.

Shaking redistributes the terpenes

When you shake the bottle, you are temporarily forcing the essential oil layer and the water base to mix. The terpene compounds get redistributed throughout the liquid so that each spritz pulls from a consistent, blended formula. You get the full terpene profile in every spray, not just water.

Think of it this way: if you spent time and money buying a spray formulated to 90%+ terpene accuracy, skipping the shake is like buying a precision-engineered coffee and then only drinking the water off the top. The good stuff is still in there. You just bypassed it.

How to actually use the spray

  • 01
Shake for 5–10 secondsEvery time, without exception. Before the first spritz of the day and after the bottle has been sitting.
  • 02
Hold 8–12 inches from the target surfaceLinens, pillows, room air, soft furnishings. Not directly on skin or delicate fabrics without testing first.
  • 03
1–3 spritzes is enoughTerpenes are potent. More is not always better. Start with one and give it 30 seconds to diffuse before deciding if you want more.
  • 04
Store upright, away from heat and direct lightHeat accelerates separation and can degrade terpene compounds over time. A drawer or cabinet beats a sunny windowsill.

Why this matters more with a precision formula

Most room sprays are built around fragrance , the goal is for it to smell nice, and the ratio of one ingredient to another is not especially critical. If the top layer is a little heavier on one note, it probably does not change the experience much.

Moodtanicals is different. These formulas are built around specific terpene ratios because those ratios are what drive the mood association. Myrcene at a certain percentage does something different than myrcene at half that amount. The formula is the product. Which means getting the formula into the spray, all of it, not just the water layer, actually matters.

Shaking is how you make sure the formula works the way it was designed to work.

FOUNDER NOTE

I built these blends to hit a target. When you shake the bottle, you are the last step in that process. Five seconds. Every time. That is the whole ask.
